Today, on Commonwealth Day, we celebrate the unity, diversity, and shared values of the 56 nations that make up the Commonwealth. This year’s theme, “One Resilient Common Future,” resonates deeply with our mission at Women on the RISE—to empower women, break down barriers, and create equal opportunities for all.
Across the Commonwealth, women have made incredible strides in leadership, education, business, and social change. Yet, challenges remain—gender inequality, economic disparity, and systemic biases continue to hold too many women back. That’s why we are committed to driving action, fostering mentorship, and creating spaces for women to rise, thrive, and lead.
Progress for Women in the Commonwealth
Over the past decade, we’ve seen significant achievements in women’s rights, economic inclusion, and leadership across the Commonwealth:
✅ Political Representation: Women now hold key leadership roles, with countries like Barbados, New Zealand, and Bangladesh led by female heads of government.
✅ Economic Empowerment: Programs in India, Kenya, and the UK are helping women launch businesses, access funding, and thrive in STEM and entrepreneurship.
✅ Education & Skill Development: Nations like Sri Lanka and Canada have seen rising female enrollment in higher education, paving the way for more women in tech, business, and policy.
✅ Legal Protections: Countries such as Australia and South Africa have strengthened laws against gender-based violence and workplace discrimination.
Despite these victories, the gender gap persists. Women continue to earn less than men, struggle for access to leadership positions, and face gender-based violence at alarming rates.
